How To Keep Your Bathroom In The Best Possible Condition

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. While not a communal space, it’s a place to take care of your needs or relax. It’s also the place where most people start and end their day (aside from their bed, that is). Furthemore, studies suggest that a well-designed and maintained bathroom can increase the value of your property with a recent study finding that buyers are willing to pay 4-5% more for a nice bathroom.

However, it goes without saying that the bathroom isn’t the easiest place to maintain and keep clean. In fact, it’s estimated that “there are around 200 million bacteria per square inch on each hand after you visit the average bathroom”.

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to keep your bathroom in the best possible condition.

Deal with issues as soon as they arise. If you have noticed some maintenance issues in your bathroom, it’s better to resolve them sooner rather than later. After all, they will only get more expensive (and difficult) to resolve the longer you ignore them. For example, if you notice that your toilet is clogged or that the flush function is not quite as efficient as it should be, it may be worthwhile to look into some toilet unblocking services.

Clean the space at least once a week. While some areas of your home require a little less TLC than others, your bathroom is a space that should never be neglected. You should aim to clean your bathroom at least once a week, if not a little more often. This will help you keep dirt, grime and bacteria at bay.

Keep the space ventilated. Keeping your bathroom well-ventilated is important for many reasons. Firstly, it allows for a steady stream of fresh air to enter your home, therefore removing any unpleasant smells. Opening windows after taking a shower or bath can also prevent moisture from getting trapped in the bathroom, which could otherwise lead to the build-up of mould. If you have one, you should also ensure you turn the fan on during this time.

Keep the floor dry. It’s easy to step out of the shower and just go about with your day. However, doing so could leave excess moisture on the floor of your bathroom which once again leads to a variety of maintenance issues. It can also create a health hazard, which is particularly disheartening for those trying to make their bathroom safer for older relatives.

Make your own cleaning products. Keeping on top of your cleaning schedule can quickly get expensive, especially if you lose a lot of products to achieve a sparkling finish. However, you could reduce these costs by making your own cleaning products, using ingredients you may already have in your cupboard. For example, you can use baking soda to remove soap scum or stains from your sink, bath and shower. Making your own products is also a great way to save the planet, as you are no longer using products that contain unnecessarily harsh or damaging chemicals.
