The Truth Behind Long Distance Relationships

Falling in love is not always easy. Finding love seems impossible most of the time. As much as we would like our true love to live right next door, sometimes Cupid’s arrow hits us when we are far from home. Long distance relationships are common especially in the age of online dating and social media. If you find yourself in one of these situations, it’s not going to be easy and you’re going to have to muster up a lot of patience and faith to keep your relationship going. Here are a few truths to consider if you’re already in a long distance relationship or if you are starting one.

It’s Going to Be Lonely

Your love is not always going to be around you. You’re going to have to go to weddings, parties, and spend holidays without them by your side. Before choosing this relationship and person you must know that you are going to have to be alone a lot of the time. It sucks because the perk of a relationship is to not be alone and here you are in one and still by yourself. Once you wrap your mind around what this relationship is going to be like, the sooner you can prepare yourself to deal with the loneliness.

You Gotta Have Faith

If you have trust issues, don’t be in a long distance relationship. You will not be able to see where your partner is, who they are with, and what they are doing. If you truly love this person and want to be with them and you trust them then go about your life knowing they are being faithful. If you are spending most of your days worried that they are with someone else, then this relationship is not for you. You are one who is best suited for a local relationship where you can be with your love all the time building a life with them.

Legal Issues for International Love

Your relationship may be long distance because your partner is in another country. If that is the case, you need to know what goes on with your country’s immigration laws so that your love can visit you. The laws vary depending on the country, so make sure your significant other has all the paperwork they need to enter the country. Your country may allow for them to apply for indefinite leave to remain. This law will allow them to stay and remain in your country without being affected by certain immigration laws. Consult an immigration attorney for more detailed information.

Promises, Promises

There is always the promise that you two are going to wind up in the same place at the same time one day. Please keep in mind that this is just a promise and sometimes promises are not fulfilled. If it seems unlikely that you will wind up in the same place, have a long talk about where the relationship is going so you can be on the same page.
